At least five people were killed when supporters of two different parties battled each other in Afghanistan's northern Faryab province, officials said Sunday.
This is the latest in a series of clashes between people loyal to Jamiat-e-Islami and Junbish-i-Milli since over the past one year.
The incident happened in Qaisar district on Saturday evening, a spokesman for provincial police said.
Abdul Karim Yorush said that eight police were also among those injured during the clash.
He said that the battle started after sporadic shots were fired in Dam Qol area. He said an investigation was underway into the incident.
The latest clash between the sides come less than two months after two people were killed while 10 more were injured in a similar incident in the same province.
The deadliest clash between Junbish and Jamiat happened in May last year, in which 10 people were killed in Almar district of Faryab.
