An Afghan district security official was injured in an attack by the Taliban insurgents in northern Takhar province overnight, officials confirmed Monday.
Pacha Khan, the intelligence officer for police in Khwaja Bahauddin district, faced the ambush during a patrol in Kandahari Qeshlaq area of the district.
He and his guard were injured in the attack, according to a spokesman for provincial police.
Khalil Aseer added that the militants torched a Humvee and vehicle that was carrying the officer.
Afghan forces kill 53 militants in operations
Afghan Defense ministry in a statement Monday said that 53 militants were eliminated in countrywide operations over the past 24 hours.
Twenty more were injured in the offensive which happened in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Khost, Ghazni, Kandahar, Daikundi, Herat, Baghlan, Jowzjan, Faryab, Kunduz and Helmand.
The dead included also 17 militants loyal to Islamic State group, according to the statement.
